Using Visual Arts in Early Childhood Programming Workshop
A 90-minute workshop, Thursday, February 14, 2019, 2:30pm Eastern/1:30 Central/12:30 Mountain/11:30am Pacific

You don’t have to be an artist to integrate art into your children’s programs. In this workshop, children’s librarian Katherine Hickey and art educator Heather White provide you with the theoretical and practical information needed to integrate visual arts into early childhood programming.

You’ll learn four easily replicable art projects for children ages 18 months to 5 years old that you can implement and be provided with additional resources to find more ways to tap into young patrons’ creativity through visual arts. Each project covered will include instructions, supply needs, learning objectives, expected outcomes, storybook connections, and many other tips for successful implementation in the library.

After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand emerging art education concepts and early education philosophies, and walk away with strategies to adapt them to a public library setting
  • Connect early literacy principles to art making and make these connections clear in your programs
  • Use familiar art-making materials creatively when leading programs for children 18 months to 5 years old

While completing your purchase, fill in the name and e-mail address of the participant who will sign in to the event by clicking the "Attendees" button to the right of the item in your cart. This individual will receive an e-mail from WebEx confirming registration before the event begins. Attendees should add messenger@webex.com to their approved email sender list, so they can ensure that they receive the automatic notifications.

This is an online event hosted through WebEx. Further technical information is available at the ALA Store FAQ page.
