Two heroes who read together are search-and-rescue volunteers Linda Cardell, an emergency medical technician, and her golden retriever, Kobie. The two work for West Jersey K9 Search and Rescue, an organization that uses highly trained dog/handler teams to find lost or missing people; in 2005, the team traveled to Mississippi to help with the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.
