RDA Lab: Relationship Basics
A 4-part lab, with two alternate times that will cover the same material for each one-hour session:

  • Time A sessions are on Tuesdays at 8:30am Chicago (UTC-6)/Tuesdays at 2:30pm London (UTC)/Wednesdays at 1:30am Sydney (UTC+11) starting on February 23, 2021.
  • Time B sessions are on Wednesdays at 6:30pm Chicago (UTC-6)/Thursdays at 12:30am London (UTC)/Thursdays at 11:30am Sydney (UTC +11) starting on February 24, 2021 (-6 UTC)/February 25, 2021 (UTC+11).
    • Both times for the fourth session will start an hour earlier for those outside of the United States due to Daylight Savings Time.

In the revised RDA, relationship designators have become relationship elements, and new entities have resulted in several attribute elements becoming relationship elements. This module provides exposure to a variety of aspects of relationship elements through exercises using relationship elements to describe entities. Topics covered in the module include element labels, domain and range, element hierarchies, coherent description of an information resource, and recording methods.

This lab is part of the RDA Lab SeriesNote: Verbal and visual instruction for this series will be conducted in English.

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  • Find a relationship element using its hierarchy
  • Understand how to provide a coherent description of an information resource
  • Appreciate the implications of using each recording method for a relationship element
