RDA Lab: Manifestations
A 4-part lab, with two alternate times that will cover the same material for each one-hour session:

  • Time A for each session will take place Tuesdays at 8:30am Chicago (UTC-5)/ Tuesdays at 2:30pm London (UTC+1)/Tuesdays at 11:30pm Sydney (UTC+10) starting on April 20, 2021.
  • Time B for each session will take place Wednesdays at 6:30pm Chicago (UTC-5)/Thursdays at 12:30am London (UTC+1)/Thursdays at 9:30am Sydney (UTC +10) starting on April 21, 2021 (UTC-5)/April 22, 2021 (UTC+10).

Describing manifestations in RDA allows for multiple methods to provide information to users. Manifestation statements are recorded to follow the principle of representation in identifying a manifestation, while RDA Vocabulary Encoding Schemes (VESs) for manifestation elements provide users with the means to find and select manifestations. This module will focus on describing manifestations with manifestation statements and VES elements as well as other common manifestation elements such as appellation of manifestation and date of manifestation. Participants will describe manifestations of different carrier types such as volume and audio disc. Aggregate manifestations will be covered in the Aggregate Manifestations module.

This lab is part of the RDA Lab SeriesNote: Verbal and visual instruction for this series will be conducted in English.

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  • Describe a manifestation that embodies only one expression
  • Understand use cases for manifestation statements
  • Apply an appropriate RDA VES to record a value for a manifestation element.
