Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF)

ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) is charged with implementing the intellectual freedom policies of the American Library Association through educating librarians and the public about the concept of intellectual freedom as embodied in the Library Bill of Rights, the Association's basic policy on free access to libraries and library materials. In order to meet its educational goals, the Office undertakes information, support, and coordination activities.

Jason Griffey

Jason Griffey is a librarian, technologist, consultant, writer, and speaker. He is the founder and principal at Evenly Distributed, a technology consulting and creation firm for libraries, museums, educational institutions, and other nonprofits. Griffey is an Affiliate researcher at metaLAB at Harvard University, and a former Fellow at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University. He was a winner of the Knight Foundation News Challenge for Libraries in 2015 for the Measure the Future project, an open hardware project designed to provide actionable use metrics for library spaces. Griffey is also the creator and director of the LibraryBox Project, an open-source portable digital file distribution system. He has written and spoken internationally on topics such as the future of technology and libraries, personal electronics in the library, privacy, copyright, and intellectual property.

Sarah Houghton-Jan

Sarah Houghton-Jan is the digital futures manager for the San José Public Library. She writes the award-winning blog about library technology, Librarian In Black and is a frequent consultant, speaker, and trainer on issues of libraries, technology, and user experience design. She was named a 2009 Library Journal Mover and Shaker as a Trendspotter.

Eli Neiburger

Eli Neiburger is a genuine gaming geek and is currently technology manager at the Ann Arbor District Library where he runs successful videogaming tournaments. Hooked on his first Atari console at age five, Eli continues his gamer ways, as well as speaking at and giving workshops for libraries, associations, and conferences around the country about how to appeal to an audience of youth not otherwise served at the library.
