New Kid, the first graphic novel to win the Newbery Medal, also received the Coretta Scott King Author Award in 2020. In addition to his impactful graphic novels, New Kid and Class Act, Craft is the creator of the award-winning Mama’s Boyz comic strip and a cofounder of the Schomburg Center’s Annual Black Comic Book Festival.
