John Steptoe Seal
As part of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards program honoring African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that reflect the African American experience, the John Steptoe Award for New Talent is awarded to an African American author and/or illustrator who demonstrates significant promise in this field, and who has published no more than three books.
