Readers need books by and about all people to teach us about who we are and who we might become. The Notable Books for a Global Society strives to brings books by and about all people to students readers. Librarians are instrumental in making that happen. We invite you to explore the newly awarded 2018 NBGS collection in this webinar.

• Participants will understand criteria used for selecting quality, diverse literature for children in our global society.
• Participants will be able to select and recommend newly published diverse literature for clientele.
• Participants will be able to combine diverse texts to create text sets or pairings to increase understanding and empathy.

Renita Schmidt

Dr. Renita Schmidt is an Associate Professor of literacy at the University of Iowa where she coordinates the Language, Literacy and Culture program. She currently chairs the Notable Books for a Global Society.

Fran Wilson

Fran Wilson is a second-grade teacher and Language Arts Instructional Leader at Madeira Elementary School. She currently serves as co-chair of the Notable Books for a Global Society and is the incoming chair.
