Can you guess one of the most essential components of library operations? It’s marketing! In this eCourse, you will learn all the necessary skills to market your library—from social media and PR campaigns to designing new library programs and enhancing the experience of your library’s users.  You’ll know how to successfully draw patrons in and get them interested in the products and services you provide.

This four-week, hands-on eCourse will take you through integrating marketing into a number of library service areas, including:

  • Promotion of your services
  • Program planning
  • Branding
  • Web content
  • Public relations
  • Analytics
  • Social Media
  • Overall in-building experience

You’ll learn by reading short articles, watching videos on each topic, sharing ideas and collaborating with other students and your instructor via eCourse bulletin boards and forums. By the time the eCourse is over, you’ll be ready to adapt what you’ve learned and start promoting your own library services.

After participating in this eCourse, you will:

  • Become familiar with basic marketing concepts and terminology
  • Be able to promote and design services and products that will engage both current and new library users
  • Be aware of the various ways to gather information about diverse customer needs and analyze the data to improve your services

Upon purchase you will receive a registration PDF in the form of a digital download. This PDF contains a link to our Registration page and a password. You must download this PDF and follow the instructions in order to complete the registration. The download link can be found on the final confirmation screen after you complete your purchase, and may also be accessed by selecting "My Account" at the top of your screen and then selecting the "Files" tab. Confirmation with login instructions, reminders, and alerts will go to the email address used in the registration.

How this eCourse Works
The eCourse begins on January 7, 2019. Your participation will require approximately four to five hours a week, at times that fit your schedule. There are no live sessions. All activities take place on the website, and you will be expected to

  • Read, listen to or view online content
  • Post to online discussion boards
  • Complete weekly assignments or activities

Instructor Dana Braccia will monitor discussion boards regularly during the 4-week period, lead group discussions, and will also answer individual questions. All interaction will take place on the eCourse site, which will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's recommended that students log into the site on the first day of class or within a few days for an overview of the content and to begin the first lesson.

User Requirements

Participants will need regular access to a computer with an internet connection for online message boards participation, viewing online video, listening to streaming audio (mp3 files), and downloading and viewing PDFs and PowerPoint files. ALA Publishing eLearning Solutions eCourses are fully compatible with Windows and MacOs.

Dana Braccia

Dana Braccia has more than 25 years of experience in the private and public sectors in the U.S. and Micronesia. Along with over ten years of public library experience, she has worked in municipal services, hospitality, Major League Baseball facility management, retail, and banking. Dana has been an adjunct instructor in the Masters programs for the University of Arizona and University of Tennessee. She is past president of the Mountain Plains Library Association and a former Councilor with the American Library Association.
