READ with Mia Tang, star of Kelly Yang’s Front Desk series. This new library card art features Mia behind the desk of the Calivista Motel, where she works and dreams of becoming a writer while her parents clean the rooms and help other Chinese immigrants. Front Desk, which received the 2019 Asian/Pacific American Award for Children's Literature, and three following titles were inspired by the author’s childhood. At the age of 13, Kelly went to college at UC Berkeley and then went on to Harvard Law School. She is the founder of The Kelly Yang Project, a leading writing and debating program for children in Asia and the US. Special thanks to Kelly Yang, illustrator Maike Plenzke, and Scholastic Press.
