In our final sessions, we will discuss several programs and services that exist in many communities that support and develop child, many of which are ready and willing to partner with libraries.

  1. Upon completion, participants will be able to identify organizations in their community to support child care providers.
  2. Upon completion, participants will be able to identify and analyze the needs of home-based child care providers and see them small business owners.

Maud Andrew is manager of Business & Career Services in Brooklyn Public Library’s Business & Career Center.

Mary Kuehner

Mary Kuehner has been a librarian for more than 20 years and is currently an early literacy librarian at the Arapahoe Library District in Colorado where plans and facilitates the Learning on the Go and Make and Take programs. Prior to joining Arapahoe Libraries, she worked as the early learning senior librarian at Denver Public Library and the Traveling Children’s Librarian at Jefferson County Public Library. She is a founding steering committee member of Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy and was the 2018 chair of the ALSC Excellence in Early Learning Digital Media Award committee. She has presented at professional event including the Rocky Mountain Early Childhood Conference and the Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy Annual Conference and presented a webinar on executive function skills development in storytime through Early Childhood Investigations.

Rachel Payne

Rachel Payne is the Coordinator of Early Childhood Services at Brooklyn Public Library where she leads the BPL’s award-winning First Five Years initiative. She is a contributor to Reading with Babies, Toddlers, and Twos (Sourcebooks, 2013) and Library Services from Birth to Five: Delivering the Best Start (Facet, 2015). She has written for School Library Journal, where she co-authors the “First Steps” column, Library Trends, Kirkus, and The Horn Book blog “Calling Caldecott.” She served on the 2009 Caldecott Award Selection Committee and chaired the 2016 Committee. She has presented on early literacy at ALA, PLA, Bank Street Infancy Institute, Young Child Expo, and at other professional gatherings and regularly leads staff trainings on early literacy at BPL and beyond.
