123 pages Softcover ISBN-13: 978-0-8389-8050-7 Year Published: 1999 The purpose of this Collection Development and Resources Access Plan is two-fold. It is a comprehensive document to guide both present and future selectors in the process of developing the collection to meet the needs of Skokie’s ever changing community. he statement also provides a clear outline of the roles, duties, and responsibilities of all persons involved in the selection of materials. Further, the document sets out a consistent plan for the management and development of the collection, thus giving direction to the allocation of the materials budget.
The second purpose of this Collection Development and Resources Access Plan is to explain to new staff, to professionals in other libraries, and to the community the history, mission, and objectives of the Library’s collection so they can better understand the rationale behind the selection of materials and resources. In this area, the statement affirms the principles upon which selection is based, and the policies and goals for managing the collection. The descriptions of each area of the collection should help people develop realistic expectations about the scope and depth of the Library’s holdings. It will also provide information for cooperative collection development within the North Suburban Library System. |
