About the Author Margaret Alexander Edwards is a pioneer and a legend in the field of young adult librarianship. Often referred to as the "patron saint of young adult services," she was one of the first librarians to recognize the importance of specialized services that address the particular needs of young adults. Her philosophies and practices, as illustrated in The Fair Garden and the Swarm of Beasts, have influenced and inspired generations of librarians since it's original publication in 1969, and continue to be a foundation for today's new young adult librarians.
Betty Carter is Professor Emerita in the School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman's University. An avid reader of young adult books growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina, Carter has maintained that commitment to young adult literature during her many years of service as a YALSA board member and author of Best Books for Young Adults. Reviews “One might ask just how relevant a book about library services to teenagers originally published in 1969 could be in 2003. The answer is that the more things change the more they stay the same...the enthusiasm and straightforward advice is as timely today as it was more than 30 years ago.”
